Awakening to contentment
Contentment is an elusive state of being. It isn’t a natural goal because it feels static and dull.
However, contentment is anything but dull! It requires investment of purpose, focus, and desire. To be content is a constant movement towards stability. And stability requires balance.
Contentment has three requirements:
- It requires an awareness of one’s situation in the world, that is, an understanding of society with its expectations and its allowances. To be content in society means pushing the boundaries while respecting the framework.
- It requires respect for others and their accomplishments, foibles, and resources. To be content with one’s own position means releasing envy or expectation of equivalency.
- It requires internal awareness of personal talents, limitations, interests, and temperament. To be content fully is to be accepting of oneself, truly accepting.
Contentment is the goal for a life that is challenging yet calming, purposeful yet comforting, intertwined yet outward-facing, focused yet relaxed.
Note: Spirit shares this information to provide people with direction. The pursuit of contentment is a well-rounded pursuit. It requires purpose, focus, diligence, practice, and acceptance.
